THE GIFTS OF HOCKEY
by Tommie Holmes
AUTHOR’S NOTE
Because there was no Stanley Cup presented in 2005, the cup was forwarded to a select few old time Stanley Cup winners. Kenny Mosdell was one of these so honored. Because one of my stories in “The Gifts of Hockey” uses Kenny as a role model, he invited me to his home when the cup arrived.
TESTIMONIALS
“I enjoyed reading this hockey book. It talks about the importance of staying in school and I am pleased to recommend this book to young readers.”
KENNY MOSDELL - Member of four NHL Stanley Cup teams with the Montreal Canadiens.
“If you enjoyed reading 'The Hockey Sweater' by Roch Carrier, then chances are you’ll enjoy a new hockey book titled “The Gifts of Hockey".
THE MONTREAL GAZETTE
ABOUT THE BOOK
This book is about more than hockey. It is a book about relationships – between fathers and sons and how hockey can bridge the gap between generations in the family and help single parent families to cope with keeping kids from dropping out of school.
This book has been written up as a ‘Spotlight Story’ in the sports section of the Montreal Gazette.
AUTHOR’S BIO
Tommie Holmes is a long time college teacher residing in Pointe Claire West Island Montreal. He writes middle school stories for children and young readers (age 8 to 14) of which five hockey stories are combined in the book, “The Gifts of Hockey”, 150 pages text only.
There are an additional two stories in the book about a little cat named ‘Stray Gray’. The first story tells of how a stray little pussycat saves the neighbourhood lane. The second story deals with a ‘gifted person’ and how he saves ‘Stray Gray’ from being destroyed at the local animal center.
Tommie Holmes’ two mystery novels, “Shadow Lights” and “Letters Left at the Desk” will be available in autumn 2006.
“The Gifts of Hockey” is available as a ‘signed’ limited addition. If the book is a gift, as per your request, the author will include a few words in the front of the book.
